Turkish public opinion is used to hear of Turkish military as a subject of internal and external politics, but rarely as an object of critical technical analysis. It took a retired American diplomat, when citing likely expectations of the next American president from Ankara, to open the Pandora’s box and advise Turkey on the need for military modernization.


The comments of a senior retired American diplomat Thursday on the Turkish army shifted the focus of discussions on the military to its firepower rather than it's influence on Turkish politics. more »
